Women's day in Alkmaar

As I am travelling a lot I was happy that I could be in Alkmaar for the WomanLink organized event in Hal 25. As the topic was the 20/30ies many women were dressed accordingly.

I had chosen a black and red outfit with extremely high red heels... Luckily, I was smart enough to take for the bicycle ride and for any case my black comfy shoes also with me. This was indeed smart as we danced a lot and before my feet were givin' away I quickly changed my shoes.
The evening was really great, as you can imagine with a lot of women dressed nicely for the occasion. There was a lot of food from different nationalities and you could buy from a rich assorted variation of very tasty food. Yummy. And the money paid for food, drinks and other womanly goods was dedicated for the Praethuys, a place were people with cancer or relatives can meet and exchange experiences and support. As I am also in the medical field I can confirm from experience that the best treatment during this difficult period the patient and its relatives endures is the personal contact and gathering information and experiences with people going through the same situation. Thus, a really great initiative which should be established in many cities.
The programme was also pretty spectacular and well arranged by WomanLink and in particular Annemiek Klever. You better can have a look on their official FB site for more pics and infos: http://www.facebook.com/pages/WOMANLINK/355567931149962?fref=ts

The highlight of the evening was already in the very beginning with Cafe Noir. It started with an old US car (from the 50ties) coming out of the dark to the audience with headlights on. Out of it a beautiful lady in a red dress sneak out and started her dialogues. She went to the stage and was presenting a marvellous presentation acting in dialogue with film sequences from old b/w films with Humphrey Boggart etc at the hightime of the US mafia wars. A pity that my pics are too blurry, but still I hope it gives an impression.

After that we mingled and talked to the other women there and started to dance. Sandy, with whom I am a member of ViB brought her friend Dewi with her and we discussed a lot of stuff (see picture below). Incredible how quick time was passing and we were pretty surprised to here that the event is over and that it is already 1.30 am.

A big compliment to the organisers!

How we rescued the Easter rabbit

This rabbit was picked up in the deep snow by our dog. It was terrible exhausted with 160 gram new born. After being touched by our dog and removed from its mouth we had the decision to let it die (as the mother will not feed it again) or to hand-feed and milk it. It is a wild rabbit and you should not try to do it if you don't know about the time and medications. We also informed the local hunters and they gave their blessings. At the time of the picture the rabbit has grown to 550 grams and still need milk 4 times a day. It has been treated with Cotrim K and lactobacillus to prevent coccidosis. But it is also a great experience. We will let him free in the wild when the rabbit is about 1 kilo and can take care of him/herself.

Happy Easter!

ViB Christmas dinner

As I have been now since more than one year a member of our local female entrepreneur's association "Vrouw in Bedrijf" (ViB, english: Woman in her Company), I also was happy to change the business suit with a little glam and dress up nicely for the christmas dinner. I choose to wear my long black dress that I bought from Monsoon in London about 10 years ago. We were about 30 women all in their prettiest outfits. And as you can see from the picture below we had quite some fun together.

Interestingly was that just above on the floor above another x-mas party took place with only men (engineers from a building company), also cutely dressed in their suits and ties. As some of us women knew some of the guys we had some funny encounters occasionally.

The restaurant, called 't Stokpaardje was located in Alkmaar's Vrouwenstraat. A very hidden location and if not for this evening I would never have known about its existence. It was a nice old buiding offering a very cosy surrounding. We got 4 dishes and they were just marvelous presented and absolutely tasty. We got seated according to the letters of our first names and had to change for the main course so that we could network also with some of the other women in the restaurant. All in all a perfectly organized evening.
